Most Googled Fashion Questions? Part 2: The Cargo Pant & Y2K Fashion

If you didn't get a chance to read my blog post last week, I was discussing the most Googled Fashion Questions. What came up was an article from British Vogue. The article started off by discussing how to style Cowboy Boots.

The article then goes into discussing the resurgence of cargo pants as part of the Y2K fashion revival, seen on runways and in everyday wear. It offers styling tips for both a nostalgic throwback look and a more modern, sophisticated approach. For a nostalgic look, pair cargo pants with crop tops, chain belts, and strappy slingbacks. For a refined style, baggy cargos can be worn with a pinstripe shirt and pointed boots, or tailored wool cargos with a white T-shirt and oversized blazer. For a casual weekend look, khaki cargos with a trendy rugby shirt, Adidas trainers, and a colorful bag are recommended.

....this got me thinking more about 2000s Fashion.

2000s fashion, often referred to as Y2K fashion, is characterized by bold, eclectic, and sometimes experimental styles. This era saw a mix of futuristic elements and nostalgic references from the late 20th century. Some key trends and items from the 2000s include:

  1. Low-Rise Jeans: Often paired with crop tops, these jeans were a staple in the early 2000s, showcasing a casual and slightly rebellious look.

  2. Cargo Pants: Known for their practicality and multiple pockets, cargo pants became a fashion statement, especially in baggy and military-inspired styles.

  3. Tracksuits: Velour tracksuits, popularized by brands like Juicy Couture, were both comfortable and stylish, often seen in bright colors and worn by celebrities.

  4. Crop Tops: These tops, exposing the midriff, were frequently paired with low-rise jeans or skirts, contributing to the bold aesthetic of the time.

  5. Logos and Branding: Clothing with visible logos from brands like Fendi, Louis Vuitton, and Dior was highly popular, signaling a trend towards ostentatious display of designer labels.

  6. Accessories:

    • Chain Belts: Adding a touch of edginess, these belts were often worn with jeans or skirts.
    • Choker Necklaces: A revival from the 90s, chokers were a common accessory in the early 2000s.
    • Tiny Sunglasses: Inspired by futuristic themes, small, often colorful sunglasses were a trendy accessory.
  7. Footwear:

    • Strappy Sandals: Elegant and minimalistic, these were perfect for both casual and formal outfits.
    • Platform Shoes: Reminiscent of the 90s, platforms were still popular in the early 2000s, adding height and a dramatic flair.

.... and more on Styling Cargo Pants in a 2000s-Inspired Way

For a genuine 2000s vibe with cargo pants:

  • Go Full Noughties: Pair them with a crop top to highlight the low-rise fit. Add a chain belt for extra flair, and finish with strappy slingback sandals for a chic yet casual look.
  • Layering and Mixing: Combine baggy cargo pants with layers like a fitted tank top under an open button-down shirt, or mix textures with a silky top and a denim jacket.
  • Accessorize Boldly: Choose bold accessories like large hoop earrings, a chunky belt, or a statement handbag to complete the look.
  • Footwear: Opt for platform sneakers or classic trainers to ground the outfit while maintaining a casual and comfortable feel.

By incorporating these elements, you can create versatile outfits that pay homage to the vibrant and diverse fashion of the early 2000s.

.... or NOT. I lived it once and do not plan to again, however I have to say I do enjoy a good pair of Palazzo Pants, as they just make sense.

Next week we will delve further into the article to discuss more about the most Googled fashion questions.
